The Gatehouse
The Gatehouse, Oxenford Farm, Elstead, Surrey
Client: Mr A Baker
Client Brief
The Gatehouse is a Grade 2 Listed Building and is part of a working farm, where the Client and his family live. The Client wanted to renovate the Gatehouse in conjunction with ‘The Landmark Trust’ who would, on completion manage and promote the rental of the building as a holiday let.
The Gatehouse was designed by AWN Pugin, who is renowned for designing the ‘Palace of Westminster’ and a number of churches. The Gatehouse was originally built as the Gatehouse for the Deer Park to Peper Harow Estate.
Why Bakersgate Developments?
Bakersgate Developments had previously worked with the Client on a Barn Conversion that was presented with an Award from the Local Authority. This project was successfully managed by Bakersgate Developments with attention paid to programme, costs and liaison with The Landmark Trust.
Project Summary:
The Landmark Trust was consulted during the design process, with the approach at all times to use traditional methods to relay the existing floor Flagstones. The method used was a Limecrete as this did not require a modern injected DPC.
The project was co-ordinated by Bakersgate Developments, with the Landmark Trust visiting site at regular intervals to advise on the Historic matters. The project brief was a Work In Progress, with regular input from The Landmark Trust to ensure the works were in compliance with their requirements.
On completion the building was furnished and promoted by the Landmark Trust.
